License Summary

A summary of the license types that govern the open source software we use:

MIT License Permissive

A permissive license requiring only preservation of copyright and license notices in distributions.

Used by: JavaScript libraries, UI components, utility packages

Apache 2.0 Permissive

A permissive license that also provides an express grant of patent rights from contributors to users.

Used by: Android components, backend libraries

BSD 3-Clause Permissive

Permissive license similar to MIT with a clause prohibiting use of the project name to endorse derived products.

Used by: Python packages, networking libraries

GNU GPL Copyleft

A copyleft license requiring derivative works to be distributed under the same license terms.

Used by: Certain open source development tools

ISC License Permissive

Functionally equivalent to MIT with slightly simplified language. Commonly used in Node.js packages.

Used by: Node.js packages, networking utilities

SIL OFL 1.1 Fonts

The Open Font License allows fonts to be freely used, studied, modified, and redistributed in any medium.

Used by: Syne, DM Sans, and icon fonts

Source Code Availability

In accordance with the terms of certain open source licenses (such as GPL, LGPL, and MPL), we make the complete corresponding source code for certain components available upon request.

This applies only to components licensed under copyleft licenses that require source code distribution. Components under permissive licenses (MIT, BSD, Apache) are available directly from their respective public repositories.
